Position Overview

The Development Director reports to the Vice President of Development and leads our corporate and individual fundraising efforts by managing and expanding our current funding relationships and identifying new opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute the organization's development strategy including unrestricted funds, events and marketing opportunities with a focus on new donors and partnerships
  • Engage board members, corporate executives, high net worth individuals and current donors with prospect identification, visits, gift closing and planned giving
  • Plan and execute a corporate sponsorship strategy
  • Supervise the Events & Membership Coordinator and Senior Development Manager
  • Partner with program staff to provide business development support
  • Provide oversight for special events, including membership and annual fundraisers
  • Partner with the Marketing and Communications Team to develop tools and publications to support fundraising activities.


The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Seven to ten years of professional fundraising/development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and solicit individual donors & corporations
  • Proven track record with major gift fundraising and planned giving
  • Experience in grant writing, event management and donor communications/marketing
  • Familiarity with Atlanta donor community is required, and regional/national community is preferred
  • Supervisory experience
  • Budget management
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to speak confidently to potential donors and prospects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Salesforce or other CRM database experience is preferred
  • Team player who is motivated by the mission of Southface, and has the character, integrity and service orientation to represent the organization.

Physical Requirements

Ability to carry up to 35 pounds, which may involve carrying signage and marketing materials including program signs, presentation materials and equipment.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
