Position Overview

The Senior Manager of Development leads fundraising for governmental grants and foundations by managing and expanding our current funding relationships and identifying new opportunities for growth. This position reports to the Vice President of Development.

and includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of current and prospective donors, board members, foundation leaders, governmental staff, and alumni. This position will also work closely with the teams within the organization to ensure our fundraising strategy aligns with current programmatic needs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute the organization's development strategy focusing on restricted programmatic funds from foundations and governmental grants
  • Extensive grant writing, budgeting, and tracking, in close coordination with internal program managers and accounting staff
  • Engage board members, governmental staff, internal staff, and alumni in the identification and cultivation of new opportunities
  • Partner with program staff to provide business development support
  • Partner with the Marketing and Communications Team to develop tools and publications to support fundraising activities.


The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Five to seven years of professional fundraising/development experience specifically with governmental grants & foundations
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and solicit governmental grants & foundations
  • Experience and proven track record with major fundraising outcomes
  • Experience in grant writing and donor communications/marketing
  • Familiarity with Atlanta foundation community is preferred, with regional/national connections
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Salesforce or other CRM database experience is preferred
  • Diplomatic and confident with an ability to speak publicly to donors and prospects
  • Team player who is motivated by the mission of Southface, and has the character, integrity and service orientation to represent the organization.

Physical Requirements

Ability to carry up to 35 pounds, which may involve carrying signage and marketing materials including program signs, presentation materials and equipment.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
