Position Overview: Southface is seeking an experienced and motivated Business Development Manager to drive business development efforts, with a focus on expanding our reach within the building industry. This role will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, particularly within the multifamily and mixed-use development sectors.


The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in selling services to builders and developers and will be comfortable managing the full sales pipeline-from generating awareness to closing deals of all sizes (large, medium, and small). They will be emotionally regulated with experience in the built environments sector. They must be able to work within a complex multilayered nonprofit and be an excellent orator to multiple audiences.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development efforts to expand Southface's market presence in the building industry, particularly within multifamily and mixed-use developments with collaboration from the Southface Technical Services and extended team.
  • Develop and implement strategies to generate awareness and build relationships with prospective clients.
  • Manage the entire sales cycle, including lead generation, prospect qualification, proposal development, contract negotiation, and deal closure.
  • Collaborate with Technical Leaders to accurately scope and price projects.
  • Write compelling and tailored proposals that effectively communicate Southface's value proposition.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Represent Southface at industry events, networking opportunities, and conferences to promote our services.
  • Track and report development activities, pipeline progress, and market trends.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 7+ years proven experience in business development, sales, or market development within the building industry, with proven experience closing projects that are $100k up to $1M in revenue.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience selling services to owners, builders, and developers, particularly those focused on multifamily and mixed-use properties.
  • Alternative experience in selling sustainability services will be considered.
  • Connections with and knowledge of the Atlanta market and key industry players is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in managing the full sales pipeline from prospecting to closing deals.
  • Experience in writing detailed and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with technical teams to develop accurate project scopes and pricing.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday - 8:00 AM-5:00 PM with occasional evening or weekend hours; Hybrid schedule with at least two days in the office
