Position Overview

The Communications Project Manager, Content will serve as a member of the Communications + Outreach Team and report to the Senior Manager, Communications + Outreach. This role is production-focused, requiring exceptional editing/writing and social media skills and leads the external and internal communications support for the organization, collaborating with key Southface staff to maintain and enhance brand identity of Southface and its signature programs. The Communications Project Manager, Content also works closely with the Development Team, assisting in the development, integration and implementation of communication strategies and tools to drive and enhance sponsor and member relations. While strategic ability is required, this position will do the heavy lifting of ensuring that digital pieces and print collateral for all of Southface's many initiatives are delivered in the highest quality and on time, across a variety of platforms.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • In close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Communications & Outreach, developing cross-channel communications programs that grow and mobilize communities of donors, members and brand loyalists.
  • Developing creative concepts and translating them into succinct and effective copy across all platforms: web, social, print.
  • Working closely with designers and program analysts to build and optimize campaigns and web-based content strategy.
  • As part of a team, pitching concepts and explaining plans to key stakeholders.
  • Overseeing and contributing to the production, delivery and quality assurance of emails, press releases, presentations, social media posts and web pages.
  • Nurturing and growing a pool of writers/editors who are well-versed in sustainability issues.
  • Maintaining deep knowledge of social/political/economic issues that impact our organization.
  • Developing media relationships to increase interest in Southface stories.
  • Managing agency relationships and projects.
  • Processing the latest digital and offline trends and determining if/how Southface should use them to push programs forward.

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • 4 to 6 years editing, writing and content management experience in Journalism, Marketing or Communications.
  • Degree in Journalism, Marketing or Communications preferred, but not essential.
  • Familiarity with social media analysis tools, Google Analytics, A/B testing.
  • Agency experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Creative and strategic thinker.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and desktop publishing applications. WordPress, Google Drive and experience with content management platforms a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to staff, the media and the general public in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to listen to and interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to multitask and respond to varied requests.
  • Collaborative and positive team-building demeanor.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
