Position Overview

The Graphic Design and Visual Media Coordinator develops and oversees all visual components for print and digital media outreach. Reporting to the Communications Project Manager, Content, the Coordinator will focus on developing a compelling visual identity that helps to elevate Southface's brand and increasing the recognition of signature programs to ensure the identity across all channels are effective, integrated, and consistent to Southfaces's strategy.

 The Coordinator partners with the Development team to assist in the creation and implementation of events and outreach efforts by designing invitations, presentations, data visualizations and other communications to support fundraising efforts. This position will serve as a key standard-bearer across Southface's many program initiatives to ensure consistency of brand, effective representation of our mission and the highest quality of communications products are met across all our platforms.

 

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a gatekeeper of Southface's visual identity, ensuring brand and messaging consistency across all mediums.
  • Coordinate and implement all graphics activities, including requests for publication design, marketing materials, and outreach content.
  • Develop, plan and create graphic concepts for all in-house print, digital and electronic media. Deliverables include: logos, one sheets, white papers, brochures, marketing materials, invitations, presentations, event graphics, infographics and graphic design for social posts.
  • Create/source assets for the website, including data visualizations, stock photos, original photography, and video production, as needed.
  • Organize and maintain digital and print assets for archival purposes and develop and maintain templates for ongoing use.  
  • Assist in the implementation of departmental projects, effectively schedule and balance recurring and one-off projects, reprioritizing as demands necessitate to meet internal and external production deadlines, effectively leveraging project management tools (like Asana).
  • Ensure quality control for design and print work, inspect work for accuracy, color consistency and flaws, ensure projects adhere to brand/design standards, and work with Communications team to ensure content, grammar and formatting are appropriately reviewed and consistently adhere to a high standard.
  • Contribute to the creative direction and messaging consistency and effectiveness of our thought-leadership and fundraising events.
  • Collaborate with agencies/contractors and any outsourced projects, as required.

 

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Two to four years' experience in visual media/design production.
  • Commitment to and passion for Southface's mission.
  • Creative and strategic thinker, with ability to translate concepts into effective visual media that help tell a compelling story.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with a high-performing team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to set goals, manage deadlines, prioritize and collaborate on multiple projects across a talented team and in partnership with other institutional stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to multitask and respond to varied requests.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
  • Ability to listen to and interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Photography/video production experience desired, but not required.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Visual, sound and video design
    • Adobe Creative Suite (including but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)
    • Adobe Premiere
    • Canva
    • Principles and practices of graphics programs, social media, marketing development and implementation, graphic art design and printing procedures
    • Photo and video editing tools
    • Principles of effective data visualization
    • Current and emergent digital communications technologies, principles, practices
    • Familiarity with project management software/Asana

 

Physical Requirements

Normal office setting, with ability to travel to project sites to document Southface's program work in action.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM'5:30PM, with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours. Most Southface staff are working remotely currently due to the pandemic, though office is accessible to those who prefer it.
