Position: Development Professional

Location: Hybrid in Atlanta

Reports to: CEO/President

Department: Development

Salary: $80,000+ DOE

Role Overview:
The Development Professional opportunity will hold the title of Director of Development, or the Vice President of Development based on proven developmental experience. They will be a key member of the senior leadership team overseeing all fundraising efforts. They are responsible for executing a comprehensive development strategy to support the organization's mission and growth while managing the Development team. They will manage our membership program, the Annual Fund and provide oversight and direction for our annual Visionary dinner, bi-monthly Sustainable Atlanta Roundtable learning opportunities, Solstice events and other organizational events.
The ideal candidate will be an emotionally regulated professional with experience or alignment within sustainability or the energy sector. They must be dedicated to working with all teams, both internal and external stakeholders, to create high-performance and effective collaborations in all areas. They must be able to work within a complex multilayered nonprofit and be an excellent orator to multiple audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
• Collaborate with the CEO, Board of Directors, and other senior leaders to identify opportunities for growth and impact.
• Build a culture of philanthropy across the organization, engaging staff, board members, and stakeholders.
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
• Lead and manage all aspects of fundraising, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, planned giving, and special campaigns.
• Identify and implement strategies for improving membership development and retention, maximizing revenue generation, and exceeding annual unrestricted revenue goals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
• Oversee prospect research and donor stewardship efforts to ensure consistent engagement, retention and member customer service.
• Support development and distribution of cultivation and stewardship content in conjunction with the Communications + Outreach team.
• Identify and cultivate high-net-worth individuals for transformational gifts.
Operations & Team Management
• Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing development team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
• Set clear goals, monitor performance, and ensure the team achieves fundraising targets.
• Maintain all fundraising data in Salesforce; leverage database to manage event and sponsor data.
• Implement gift processing and donor acknowledgement process.
Grant Writing & Corporate Partnerships
• Oversee the research, development and submission of grant proposals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and required needs.
• Build strategic corporate partnerships to secure sponsorships, and other forms of support.
Data-Driven Decision Making
• Utilize donor data and analytics to track progress, identify trends, and optimize fundraising efforts.
• Implement and oversee the use of Salesforce donor management systems and tools for efficient reporting and analysis.
Public Representation
• Represent the organization at key events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build relationships and enhance visibility.
• Serve as a compelling advocate for the organization's mission to inspire philanthropic support.

Schedule:
• Monday through Friday
• Hybrid / Flexible scheduling
• 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Occasional evening or weekend hours.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, with a successful track record in raising significant funds.
• Expertise in fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grant writing, and corporate partnerships.
• Proven ability to build and manage relationships with high-level donors, corporate executives, and foundation leaders.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring and developing staff.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
• Experience working in sustainability, environmental advocacy, or a related field.
• Knowledge of trends in philanthropy and innovative fundraising strategies.
• Committed to building a dynamic high-performance team collaborating with all areas of the organization.
