Position Overview

The Director, Southface Sarasota leads our Florida-based presence, including external relations, program development and fundraising. With a focus on establishing a presence in the greater Sarasota area expanding to Tampa/St. Petersburg and identifying new opportunities for growth, collaboration and partnership, this role reports to Southface's Chief Officer of Development and Communications, with a dotted line to the Chief Officer of Finance and Operations. Based out of our Southface Sarasota office, formerly Florida House Institute, this position will initially focus on rolling out select program offerings, building a presence in the community and identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of current and prospective donors, board members, corporate leaders, and foundations. This position will also work closely with the teams within the organization to ensure strategic alignment with current programmatic, fundraising and brand visibility goals. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent Southface within the greater Sarasota area, with potential to engage state-wide over time
  • Partner with program staff and Executive leadership and provide strategic guidance on the growth of our impact and influence in Sarasota and beyond
  • Develop and execute the organization's regionally focused strategy including program priorities, community engagement and outreach, fundraising, and constituency and brand development goals
  • Engage board members, corporate executives, foundations, high net worth individuals and current donors in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Represent Southface in developing relationships with government, civic and nonprofit partners
  • Partner with the Communications Team to execute brand-building strategy in Sarasota

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Seven to ten years of program leadership and/or professional fundraising/development experience within a growing organization; sustainability and/or environmental experience is strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree is required; master's degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and solicit individual donors, corporations and foundations
  • Experience and proven track record with major gift fundraising
  • Experience in grant writing, donor communications/marketing
  • Familiarity with Sarasota donor community is preferred, and regional/national funding community is a bonus
  • Proven experience managing within a matrixed team
  • Excellent track record of working independently
  • Proven experience developing and effectively managing a budget
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and online databases; Salesforce experience is preferred
  • Diplomatic and confident with an ability to speak publicly to media, partners, donors and prospects
  • Ability to travel locally up to 50% and to Atlanta or other locations up to 10%.
  • Team player who is motivated by the mission of Southface, and has the passion, character, integrity and service orientation to represent the organization

Physical Requirements

Ability to carry up to 35 pounds, which may involve carrying signage and marketing materials including program signs, presentation materials and equipment, such as a projector.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
