Internship Overview

Southface Institute, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is leading the way toward a sustainable, equitable and healthy built environment for all. Since 1978, our programs have closed the gap between environmental awareness and action by promoting scalable resource efficiency and clean energy solutions for homes, workplaces, and communities.

BIT Building is a software-based, green building certification program that helps building owners, operators, and tenants improve operations, reduce costs, and achieve sustainability goals. Using an interactive, online platform, program participants will understand their building's current level of performance and learn creative ways to make improvements. Designed for all types of existing buildings regardless of their age or level of efficiency, BIT Building provides building owners and operators with step-by-step guidance on improving building performance while earning recognition for their achievements.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university working towards a degree or certificate in the field of engineering, environmental sciences, sustainability, research
• Organized with strong analytical skills
• Pursuing an educational understanding of sustainable environments, resource efficiency, resilience, and other similar strategies for improving people's lives
• Advanced Microsoft® Excel functions and formulas such as VLOOKUP, SUMPRODUCT, INDIRECT, INDEX and MATCH, and OFFSET, PivotTable, Macros.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Ability to work an average of 20-40 hours per week from August 22nd - December 9th

Job Duties

• Assist with the development of building performance auditing tools for the BIT Building program using Advance Microsoft Excel functions
• Develop current Microsoft Excel workbooks for a more robust user-experience
• Research and compile data related to commercial building products that affect energy and water consumption
• Assist with Southface events
• Additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

May require visits to a construction site. Walking. Reaching. Bending. Ability to lift 20 pounds.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
