Team Overview

The Program Implementation (PI) team provides verification services for EarthCraft, LEED, National Green Building Standard, ENERGY STAR, Home Energy Rating System, Enterprise Green Communities and the current Georgia Energy Code. The team also oversees the administration of Southface Energy Rated Homes (SERH) including program management, development, outreach and marketing. The PI team contributes to Southface research and advocacy activities through technical support and expertise.

Role Description

The Field Inspector is responsible for performance diagnostic testing and site evaluation against EarthCraft, National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and Enterprise Green Communities (EGC) green building standards. We are seeking a motivated, hardworking individual who is excited to travel to construction sites and is competent using performance diagnostic testing equipment to verify developments meet green building standards. The ideal candidate holds the RESNET HERS Rating Field Inspector (RFI) credential and will work alongside a certified HERS Rater and Project Manager to collect the data necessary to produce home energy ratings and qualify developments for green building certification. In addition to field diagnostic testing and data collection, responsibilities include day-to-day interactions with builders/developers and explanation of various code and program requirements.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support our project managers with field diagnostic testing, visual verification and data collection/documentation for energy efficiency and green building programs
    • Perform Blower Door testing
    • Perform Duct Leakage testing
    • Verify insulation and air sealing checklist items
    • Complete visual verification for items that are included in green building programs (e.g., erosion and sedimentation control, product manufacturer documentation, etc.)
  • Record, process and maintain detailed records of the work performed in the field
  • Organize pictures and checklists to align files with data collected in the field
  • Assist with coordination of scheduling to meet construction timelines among a variety of customers
  • Understand how the fundamentals of Building Science interact with construction sub-contractors, which affect overall building performance
  • Respond to both internal and external customers and provide excellent customer service
  • Communicate effectively with construction site supervisors

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Associate, vocational or technical school degree
  • 2 years' experience in construction industry (multifamily experience preferred)
  • 1 year field inspection experience (e.g., RESNET Rating Field Inspector (preferred) or BPI Building Analyst)
  • Willingness to acquire and maintain new certifications/credentials as needed
  • Ability to read building plans through the context of building science/building as a system
  • Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Collaborative, accountable and possess a positive team-building demeanor

Physical & Travel Requirements

Performing fieldwork involves extensive navigation in and around construction sites, buildings, attics and crawlspaces, as well as climbing ladders. Therefore, an applicant must possess physical dexterity, endurance and balance to accomplish this work safely and effectively.

  • Amount of Travel Required: >75% (travel to construction sites; overnight travel expected to be limited; company vehicle and testing equipment provided)
  • Abide by industry safety standards
  • 80-90% of this position will require working outdoors on jobsites
  • Ability to move up and down ladders and in attic spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., intermittently, over the course of a day
  • May be required to work overtime to meet demanding schedules; weekend work not anticipated; flextime offered to make up for overtime

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
