Our Policy practice prioritizes and champions the state and local policies that propel the clean energy and resource efficiency movement forward. We know that sound policy has the ability to transform the market, and we are working with our partners to influence data-driven, rigorous approaches to a low-carbon future. We strive to advance our policy goals through authentic and strategic engagement of communities, advocates, industry, and policymakers.

Position Overview

Southface is seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead and shape our building policy and land use advocacy efforts within the Policy practice. The ideal candidate for this role is a creative and strategic thinker who has experience working with state and local governments. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop policy frameworks for advancing sustainability and responsible resource use in buildings and communities throughout Georgia and the Southeast
  • Analyze legislation concerning energy and water codes, green building standards, land use ordinances and other relevant policy mechanisms within the jurisdiction of state and local government
  • Participate in the budget development of the Policy team, including the pursuit and administration of grants, fee-for-service opportunities and government contracts
  • Identify state and local policy trends of importance to Southface (e.g., energy and water use, high performance buildings), including emerging challenges and opportunities
  • Leverage internal and external data-driven research to form recommendations on policy innovations and emerging best practices in buildings and land use
  • Represent Southface and our policy positions in meetings with state and local policymakers, regulators, advocates, and other key stakeholders
  • Coordinate and collaborate with our partners to plan and implement effective multi-disciplinary and integrated advocacy initiatives, involving a combination of policy, program, education, and outreach strategies
  • Cultivate and expand trusted relationships by providing clear, fact-based analysis and resources
  • Shape and articulate our policy positions in briefing papers, requests for comments, and internal meetings as well as external conferences and community forums
  • Collaborate with internal teams on building and land use policy matters to help advance the Southface mission and vision

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's or related degree; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Ability to work and make decisions in a fluid and evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with planning and zoning.
  • Strong familiarity with building energy codes and standards.
  • Relevant experience working with state and/or local government agencies.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability best practices in land use considerations and the built environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional task management and organizational skills
  • Proven to be a self-starter and results oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exemplary presentation skills with ability to gather and synthesize information and perspectives from multiple sources into clear, easy-to-understand, engaging formats
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Collaborative and positive team-building demeanor
  • Valid driver's license with no major violations

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
