Advocacy Overview

For almost 20 years Southface's efforts have advanced clean and equitable energy solutions in Georgia. Our Advocacy practice champions the federal, state and local policies that propel local communities toward a regenerative economy. Policy can transform society, and we work with our partners to influence data-driven, rigorous approaches to a carbon positive future through engagement of communities, advocates, industry, and policymakers.

Our combination of policy and technical expertise, industry collaboration and stakeholder engagement help us lead within state and local energy regulatory decision-making processes. Over the next several years Southface will continue its advocacy work in Georgia and expand into other southeastern states, such as Florida.

Through the Advocacy team Southface seeks to:

  • Speed the transition to a regenerative economy
  • Expand utility-led clean energy investment and remove market barriers to distributed energy resources
  • Increase the scope, financing and effectiveness of climate resilience efforts
  • Further the policy landscape to enable affordable, healthy, equitable and efficient housing.

Position Overview

Southface is seeking a dynamic professional to advance Southface's advocacy goals in communities through managing projects at the local, state, and federal levels. The ideal candidate has a background in public policy or sustainability and is passionate about climate action, equity, and a healthy built environment as fundamental to building a regenerative economy.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct policy research and prepare white papers and policy briefs to advance Southface's advocacy priorities;
  • Through education and collaboration build and maintain positive, persuasive and strategic relationships with local and state policy makers, NGOs, industry executives, leading experts, coalition partners and other constituents;
  • Coordinate with other Southface teams to advance key drivers of a carbon positive future, including energy codes, green infrastructure, and sustainable development strategies;
  • Plan, direct and manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently
  • Coordinate and collaborate with our partners to plan and implement effective multi-disciplinary and integrated sustainability initiatives
  • Cultivate and expand trusted relationships by providing clear, fact-based analysis and resources
  • Conduct training of project team to ensure successful planning, execution, delivery and support of projects
  • Respond to requests for proposals in partnership with other members of the team

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in political science, public administration, planning, economics, public policy, environmental science, sustainability or related fields
  • Three to five years of project management experience
  • Proven exceptional task management and organizational skills while leading multiple projects, tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to partners, program participants and team in a service-oriented environment
  • Strong presentation, verbal, visual and written communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Collaborative and positive team-building demeanor
  • Valid driver's license with no major violations

Hours of Work

This is a full-time opportunity. Our hours of operations are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours may be required.
