Position Overview

The Research Associate will provide vital building systems expertise and support to the Research and Technical Services teams of Southface. Specific responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform, manage, and review complex resource efficiency audits and reporting
  • Using Southface protocols, perform, manage, and review indoor air quality assessments and reporting
  • Consult with internal and external clients on sustainability issues related to building systems, performance and occupant behavior
  • Set up, populate, and monitor ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager accounts for data integrity and support energy assessments
  • Perform energy modeling analysis and reporting for certification requirements, conceptual design analysis and refinement and performance evaluations
  • Perform research and analysis on novel practices and holistically integrated technologies for the built environment and report on the results
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new mission-based services and programs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in architecture, psychics, engineering, or appropriate equivalent technical background
  • Working knowledge of data analysis (understanding of statistical and / or other analysis techniques designed to support research projects)
  • An understanding and competency in building physics
  • Understanding of psychometrics
  • Understanding of testing equipment/tools (blower doors, temperature and relative humidity gauges, and data loggers, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze building components' performance
  • Demonstrated understanding of sustainable environments, resource efficiency, resilience, and other similar strategies for improving people's lives
  • Experience in quantitative and technical research report writing
  • Ability to manage and prioritize project deadlines
  • Collaborative and positive demeanor with demonstrated commitment to Southface's mission
  • Valid driver's license is required

Physical Requirements

Performing fieldwork involves extensive navigation in and around construction sites, buildings, attics and sites, as well as climbing ladders. Therefore, an applicant must possess physical dexterity, endurance and balance to safely and effectively accomplish this work.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options.
